SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Norway-based Hydro has entered into a five-year agreement with Nexans to supply around 85,000 tonnes of low-carbon aluminium wire rod between 2026 and 2030. The new agreement is expected to support the expansion and modernization of Europe's electricity grid.

The aluminium supplied under the contract will come from Hydro REDUXA, the company's low-carbon aluminium brand, which has a verified carbon footprint of less than 4.0 kg of CO₂ per kilogram of aluminium. Nexans will use the supplied material in the production of medium-voltage power cables, overhead transmission lines, and subsea high-voltage cable systems

Hydro noted that the agreement complements its ongoing investment to expand aluminium wire rod production at its Karmøy primary aluminium plant.

The agreement reflects the two companies' shared commitment to supporting Europe's energy transition.
