TES Unveils Modern Battery Recycling Facility in Port of Rotterdam

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): TES- the global leader in IT lifecycle services announced that it has closed a deal with the Port of Rotterdam on setting up a modern battery recycling plant, adjacent to the waterways of the Europe’s largest seaport. This will be the first lithium battery recycling plant in the Netherlands.

According to company press release, the facility will have an area of approximately 110,000 square feet. It plans to increase the facility size to approximately 430,000 square feet, by extending on to a nearly plot. TES has already obtained a waste license to handle used electric vehicle batteries and battery production scrap as well as a license to shred alkaline batteries. The extended site is expected to be fully operational by end-2022.

The TES’ existing facilities in Grenoble, France and Singapore will support the development of the new strategic location in the Port of Rotterdam. The three facilities together will make TES one of the largest global service providers of lithium battery recycling.

Thomas Holberg, Global Vice President of Battery Operations, TES said that the ambition to turn the Port of Rotterdam site into a state-of-the-art European battery recycling facility is part of its vision to be a global sustainability innovator. The facility will have shredding capacity of up to 10,000 tonnes per annum. The hydrometallurgical processes employed at the plant will lead to recovery of huge volumes of nickel, cobalt and lithium.
