SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The 2024 Sustainability Report, released by United States Steel Corporation (U.S. Steel), highlights the company's accomplishments in the previous year toward its stated sustainability objectives and activities.
According to the report, the business accomplished important milestones in the previous year. Its Big River Steel facility's recognition as the first ResponsibleSteel Certified steel manufacturer in the world is one of them. Another significant accomplishment, it said, is the 2024 Sustainable Debt Award from Environmental Finance for a $240 million green bond sale made through the Arkansas Development Finance Authority.

In comparison to the baseline for 2021, U.S. Steel reduced the intensity of Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions at Big River Steel by over 35%. It released the first-ever Report of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD). It also planted 4,6300 plants in collaboration with the Arbor Day plantation.
According to the research, Granite City Works (GCW) cut waste oil disposal by 61,000 gallons between 2023 and 2024, or roughly 19%. Additionally, it decreased the city's operational water consumption by 47.6 million gallons between 2023 and 2024, which is a 37% decrease.
According to the report, the steelmaker donated $7.7 million to more than 150 organizations, events, and initiatives.
