SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The United States Steel Corporation (U.S. Steel) has terminated legal actions it had previously taken against rival steelmaker Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. and the United Steelworkers (USW) union.
The lawsuits were related to the drawn-out process by which Japanese Nippon Steel Corp. (NSC) acquired the Pittsburgh-based steelmaker, as well as the countermoves taken by Cleveland-based Cliffs and the USW to support a rival bid.

U.S. Steel said in a statement that all legal actions and other disagreements between NSC, U.S. Steel, and the recently established Nippon Steel North America Inc. (NSNA) have been resolved in connection with the collaboration between the two companies that was finalized in the middle of June this year.
As a result, it has rejected the complaint against USW International President David McCall brought by NSC, NSNA, and U.S. Steel. Additionally, it has withdrawn an allegation of unfair labor practices against U.S. Steel that the USW had brought before the National Labor Relations Board. It stated that there were no financial factors involved in the winding down of lawsuits.
The litigation pertaining to the Nippon Steel-U.S. Steel collaboration between NSC and Cleveland-Cliffs, including any actions against Cliffs CEO Lourenco Goncalves, has likewise been terminated or dismissed, according to Nippon Steel North America Inc.
