U.S. Raw Steel Output Up 3.1% for the Week Ending Jan 10, 2026

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): U.S. domestic raw steel production posted a solid gain in the week ending January 10, 2026, signaling steady momentum across the U.S. steel industry. Weekly raw steel output totaled 1,752,000 net tons, while the capability utilization rate reached 75.7 percent, according to the latest industry data.

Production increased from 1,700,000 net tons during the same week in 2025, when mills operated at a 76.3 percent utilization rate, representing a 3.1 percent year-on-year rise in output. On a week-on-week basis, production climbed 2.8 percent from 1,704,000 net tons recorded in the week ending January 3, 2026, when utilization stood at 74.4 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date steel production through January 10, 2026, reached 2,482,000 net tons, operating at an average capability utilization rate of 75.3 percent. This marks a 2.6 percent increase compared with 2,420,000 net tons produced during the same period last year, despite slightly lower utilization levels.

A regional breakdown of steel production shows the Southern district leading with 770,000 net tons, followed by the Great Lakes region at 502,000 net tons. The Midwest produced 272,000 net tons, the North East reported 123,000 net tons, and the Western district contributed 85,000 net tons, bringing total U.S. steel output to 1,752,000 net tons for the week.
