PureCycle Collaborates with Mitsui to Launch New Plastic Recycling Plant

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): PureCycle Technologies, Inc. announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tokyo-based diversified trading and investment company Mitsui & Co., Ltd. to establish a plastic recycling facility in Japan. The proposed recycling facility will convert polypropylene waste into Ultra-Pure Recycled Polypropylene (UPRP).

Mike Otworth, CEO, PureCycle commented that Mitsui will be the best partner for it to lead and navigate the process of building the Japanese plant. The collaboration will help in reducing plastic waste across the world and revolutionizing the way people use plastic products.

Meantime, Hiroshi Kakiuchi, managing officer, chief operating officer of the Performance Materials Business Unit at Mitsui stated that the project in partnership with PureCycle will contribute to overall reduction of plastic waste and establishment of a circular economy in Japan.

It must be noted that construction of PureCycle’s flagship Ironton, Ohio recycling facility is under progress and is expected to commence commercial production in Q4 2022. Also, the company had reached an agreement with The Augusta Economic Development Authority to build its first U.S. cluster facility to produce ultra-pure recycled polypropylene (rPP) from waste polypropylene
