SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Philippines announced the launch of a national roadmap aimed at curbing plastic pollution and accelerating the transition toward a circular plastics economy. The initiative, developed with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Philippine government agencies, establishes a coordinated framework for improved plastic waste management across the country.
The roadmap follows a nationwide assessment of plastic flows, examining how plastic materials move through consumption, collection, recovery, and disposal systems. Based on the findings, a System Change Scenario that places greater emphasis on preventing waste before it is generated has been developed.
The new roadmap seeks to bring government bodies, technical experts, businesses and civil society organizations together around common plastic-management priorities. Its longer-term objectives include increasing resource recovery, reducing plastic leakage into the environment and strengthening circularity throughout the entire plastics value chain.
