MONTREAL (Scrap Monster): VinMetal Production and Trading JSC plans to import around 950,000 tonnes of steel scrap annually to support operations at its proposed Ha Tinh integrated steel plant.

The imported scrap would arrive by sea and be stored in an outdoor facility within the plant. The planned use and storage of large volumes of scrap is a prerequisite for the project to obtain an environmental permit, and the plant is currently awaiting environmental approval from authorities.

Integrated Complex Targets 5 Million Tonnes of Steel Products

VinMetal, a subsidiary of Vingroup, received its investment registration certificate for the project in February.

The planned facility will use an integrated production system covering coke making, pellet production, sintering, ironmaking, steelmaking, continuous casting and rolling.

Once fully operational, the complex is expected to produce 5 million tonnes of steel products annually. The planned product mix includes 3 million tonnes of hot-rolled coils, 1.4 million tonnes of steel bars and 600,000 tonnes of steel wire.

The facility is also expected to generate about 1.7 million tonnes of finely ground blast-furnace slag and 800,000 tonnes of processed slag cement each year.
