Two people suffered minor injuries and were treated at NYU Langone-Suffolk in Patchogue.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): A loud boom shook homes and businesses across numerous communities in central Suffolk County early Tuesday in what residents and people working nearby described as an explosion at a scrap metal yard in Holbrook.

The incident was reported about 7:30 a.m. at Arrow Scrap Corporation on Lincoln Avenue, Suffolk Police said. Employees at the metal and recycling business, located at 1120 Lincoln Ave. in Holbrook, were working in the yard when a 100-pound propane tank exploded, according to police and the Holbrook Fire Department.

Two people suffered minor injuries and were treated at NYU Langone-Suffolk in Patchogue. The department’s arson squad is investigating the incident.

Authorities shut down Lincoln Avenue in both directions near Church Street while crews responded.

An Arrow Scrap employee told Greater Long Island Tuesday morning that everyone at the facility was safe, there were no serious injuries, and that the company was speaking with authorities at the scene.

Residents took to social media Tuesday to report feeling their homes shake, with some reports of the shockwave reaching as far as Patchogue, more than five miles away.
