Metal Exchange Corp. Announced Restructuring of Secondary Aluminum Casting Capacity

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): St. Louis-headquartered Metal Exchange Corp. (MEC) announced reorganization of secondary aluminum capacity, with the aim to provide better strategic focus and organizational alignment.

Alongside, the company announced rebranding of its secondary cast product lines at its Pennex Aluminum Co. LLC sites in Wellsville and Greenville, Pennsylvania, and its Continental Aluminum site in New Hudson, Michigan as MEC Cast Products. Meantime, the company’s aluminum extrusion plants in York, Pennsylvania and Leetonia, Ohio will continue to operate under the Pennex Aluminum brand, said the company press release.

As part of the reorganization, MEC Cast Products will stop production of aluminum alloys at its New Hudson site. The production will be adjusted to meet the company’s internal requirements. It will now consume more wrought aluminum scrap than cast aluminum scrap. However, the total volume of scrap consumed by the facility will remain unchanged.

Mark Buchner, President, MEC Cast Products noted that the company’s cast products business has grown substantially over the previous years. The realignment of the operations so as to shift its focus primarily on billet market segment will further strengthen the strategic focus of its business, he added.
