SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Swedish aluminum producer Granges announced its decision to carry out major expansion at its Huntingdon, Tennessee, facility.
The proposed $33 million investment will significantly expand the facility’s casting capacity. It includes investment in buildings and a new casting line. The expansion will increase the casting capacity at Huntingdon facility by around 25,000 metric tons per year. Grnages plans to finance the investment with existing cash and internally generated cash flows.
The new investment follows the successful investments in new rolling capacity at the Huntingdon and Newport, Arkansas, which had become part of the company’s portfolio through acquisition of Noranda Aluminum’s downstream aluminum rolling business in the United States way back in 2016.

This is the third major U.S. investment by the company since 2017. It is expected to strengthen the company’s platform for continued profitable growth, said Patrick Lawlor, president of Gränges Americas. Furthermore, it reiterates the company’s commitment to grow its business with its customers and markets, he added.
In addition, the expansion is expected to provide sustainable growth by way of improved carbon emissions. It intends to increase the share of recycled aluminum from existing 19.8% to 22.5% of total sourced metal inputs.
