Lumber Mill Declares Big Expansion in Florence County

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The family-owned Charles Ingram Lumber Co. has announced plans to expand its operations in Florence County. The proposed expansion of the sawmill and lumber mill located at 4930 Planer Road in Effingham, SC is at an investment of approximately $33 million. The company noted that the expansion is likely to create around 22 new full-time jobs in the region.

The company press release issued by Vice President Furman Brodie and Manager Jim Anderson states that the company is excited to grow its business at home. The investment will help the company to better meet increasing customer needs and also position the company for future growth. Further, it acknowledged the support offered by local and state government, without which the expansion would not have become possible.

Governor Henry McMaster thanked the company for the trust and faith displayed in the state and its people. He assured that the state would continue to provide most business-friendly climate to help the company grow further.

Currently, the mill produces around 120 million board feet of Southern Yellow pine per year. As part of the expansion, Charles Ingram Lumber Co. plans to add a new dry kiln, which is expected to result in significant operational improvement. In addition, the company plans to begin construction of new manufacturing line to enable them to significantly boost production over the coming years.

Meantime, the Florence County Council on Thursday approved the final reading of a tax incentive for the company in support to its investment towards mill expansion.

Established in 1931, Charles Ingram Lumber Co. owns timberland where it grows trees for pulpwood and saw timber. The Effingham site has a lumber mill and another mill to process pulpwood into lumber. It sells lumber mainly in the southeastern United States.
