Rex Lumber to Build State-of-the-Art Lumber Facility in Southern Alabama

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Florida-based Rex Lumber Co. will build a new state-of-the-art lumber manufacturing facility in an unincorporated part of Pike County area, Southern Alabama. The announcement to this effect was made by Alabama Governor Kay Ivey. The site work at the new technologically advanced facility is expected to commence on March 15th.

The capital cost, inclusive of startup and working capital, is projected around $110 million. The annual production from the ‘Project Red Fox’ facility is estimated at around 240 million board feet of lumber per annum. The new facility is expected to create nearly 110 high-quality jobs in the region. Apart from generating jobs, the facility will also create substantial economic benefits for Pike County lumber industry.

Governor Ivey stated that he is extremely thrilled that the company has selected Alabama for the project. Further, he extended full support to help the new operation succeed and thrive for years to come. Meantime, Caroline McRae Dauzat, owner, Rex Lumber Co., noted that the company is looking forward to a long and prosperous future in Pike County. The company had considered several other Southern states for the project, but had finally decided to choose Pike County, Dauzat added.

Greg Canfield, secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce noted that the new Rex Lumber Co. lumber mill will be a great addition to Alabama’s business community. Robin Sullivan, chairman of the Pike County Commission too welcomed Rex Lumber and noted that the Commission looks forward to have long working relationship with the company.

Founded in the 1920’s by W.D. McRae, Graceville, Florida-headquartered Rex Lumber Co. currently operates three sawmills-two in the northwest region of Florida and one in Mississippi with a combined production capacity of 575 million board feet per annum. The company is ranked among the top ten producers of softwood lumber in the US.
