SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Global gold investment remained resilient in the third quarter of 2026, supported by unprecedented exchange-traded fund (ETF) inflows, even as retail purchases of bars and coins weakened, said the latest Gold Demand Trends Report by the World Gold Council (WGC).
Total investment demand reached 479 tonnes, down 14% year-over-year from the exceptionally strong third quarter of 2025.
Physically backed gold ETFs emerged as the strongest investment tool, attracting 211 tonnes of net inflows. Global holdings climbed to a record 4,256 tonnes, while quarterly inflows reached an unprecedented $31 billion. European-listed funds led the recovery with 92 tonnes, followed by North American funds at 81 tonnes and Asian funds at 34 tonnes.
