SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) in its latest report provided data on area-wise ferrous scrap trade during the previous year.

The EU-27 region emerged as the top exporter and importer of ferrous scrap in 2022. The region exported 43.5 million tonnes during the year. The primary export destinations were the EU-27 countries, Other Europe and Other Asia regions. The region’s imports totalled 31.3 million tonnes. The EU-27 bloc turned out to be a net exporter of ferrous scrap during the year.

The second largest exporter was the North American region, whose exports totalled 24.0 million tonnes. The largest destination was Asian countries other than Japan and China, which accounted for 9.4 million tonnes of exports from North America. Meantime, the region’s ferrous scrap imports totalled 9.4 million tonnes.

The other key exporters were Other Europe (102 million tonnes) and Japan (6.3 million tonnes).

The second largest importer of ferrous scrap was Other Asia. The imports by the region totalled 31.4 million tonnes during the previous year. In third place was Other Europe, which imported 21.9 million tonnes in 2022. The other key importers were North America (9.4 million tonnes) and Africa (1.6 million tonnes).
