U.S. Steel Industry Applauds President's New Order to Boost Manufacturing Industry and Jobs

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The U.S. Steel Industry hailed the ‘Buy American, Hire American’ executive order signed by President Donald Trump, which it believes will provide the much needed boost to the country’s steel industry and ensure its competitiveness in the forthcoming years.

Thomas J. Gibson, President and CEO, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) stated that the signing of the order is another positive step towards ensuring fullest possible implementation and enforcement of existing domestic procurement laws. He applauded the President for once again affirming his commitment in safeguarding domestic industry and promoting manufacturing jobs.

Meantime, Scott Paul, President, the Alliance for American Manufacturing, noted that much more still needs to be done. He demanded further strengthening of Buy American laws in Congress. Further, he called upon federal agencies to apply the laws to all areas where they do not currently apply.

Philip K. Bell, President, the Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA) stated that taxpayer money should be used to buy only American-made products, which in turn will create good paying jobs for American workers. SMA expressed its pleasure on encouraged use of Buy American principles in government-funded projects.

The new executive order instructs all agencies to maximize the use of manufactured products produced in the U.S., including steel, in contracts, purchase orders or sub-awards.
