SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Gold Council has announced the list of top ten gold producing countries during 2020.
The top producing nation during the previous year was China. The yearly production by the country totalled 368.3 tonnes, accounting for nearly 11% of the global mines output. The country’s output registered decline for the fourth year in a row, primarily due to stricter environmental controls by the Chinese administration.

In second place was Russia with an output of 331.1 tonnes. The country, which is the major gold producer in the Europe region, has been steadily increasing its gold output since 2010. Around two-thirds of the locally produced gold was purchased by the Russian government during the previous year. The third largest producing nation was Australia with production of 327.8 tonnes. The country has reported increased year-on-year production during the past eight years.
The other countries that featured in the list, along with their gold output (in tonnes) are as follows: U.S. (190.2), Canada (170.6), Ghana (138.7), Brazil (107), Uzbekistan (101.6), Mexico (101.6) and Indonesia (100.9).
South Africa, once a leading gold producer, failed to find a place in the top ten list. The country’s gold output recorded rapid decline over the past several years. The only African country to feature in the list was Ghana.
