Ternium’s LatAm Steel Plants Lead in Technological Innovation

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Ternium has reportedly led the technological and management progress at manufacturing facilities in the Latin American region. The company has launched a series of innovative technologies at its various plants in the region.

During the previous year alone, the company has invested around $120 million in modernizing the facilities, by implementing various projects aimed at enhancing the performance in environmental, safety and energy use. For instance, the Environmental Monitoring Center at the Rio de Janeiro plant houses most modern technology in capturing environmental data and monitoring indicators on a real-time basis.

In addition, the Guerrero plant in Monterrey, Mexico had implemented a tool to monitor smoke emissions from the direct reduction iron and scrap metal fusion process in electric arc furnaces. The metadata provided by the system allows better management of emissions. Also, the Integrated System of Environment, Safety and Occupational Health (SIASSO) help in automatic generation of accident frequency indices.

All the Ternium locations have a network of more than 500 high-definition cameras that integrates the video analytics system at the facilities. The systems that are powered by artificial intelligence, ensures quality control and real-time monitoring and analysis. The plants also make use of latest technologies including drones and virtual reality systems.
