Latin American Steel Summit to Debate Sector Challenges and Opportunities

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Alacero-60 steel summit will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina this November. The Latin American Steel Congress, to be attended by experts and top executives from leading steel producers in the region, will debate the challenges and opportunities of the sector.

The trade deficits of steel between the Latin American region and China will be one of the key topics of discussion. Incidentally, the recent data published by the Latin American Steel Association (ALACERO) indicates that the deficit has surpassed $30 billion during the previous year.

Andrés Malamud, professor at the University of Lisbon will be the keynote speaker of the session that analyzes Latin American political-economic situation. He will also moderate an expert panel discussion on the Agenda for the next 4 years, whose participants will be Antonio Ortiz-Mena, vice president of the Albright Stonebridge Group (ASG), Brazilian political scientist, Murillo de Aragão, and the Argentine economist, Rodolfo Santángelo.

Meantime, yet another panel comprising of Martín Berardi, president of the Argentine Steel Chamber; ernium CEOs, Máximo Vedoya; from Gerdau, Gustavo Werneck; and of ArcelorMittal Long Carbon Americas, Jefferson de Paula will participate in the discussion on the future of the LatAm steel industry.

The panel discussion ‘Industry 4.0 - What is being done in the industry’ will be moderated bySergio Kaufman, CEO of Accenture Argentina  and attended by Roberto Demidchuk, CIO of Ternium; Gustavo França, CIO and CDO of Gerdau; Paula Harraca, Director of Personnel, Communication, Social Investment and Innovation at ArcelorMittal Aceros Largos LATAM.
