The proposed £1.25 billion investment will support construction of a new 3.2 million tonne capacity EAF and two new metallurgy ladle furnaces. The construction of the EAF is in line with the company’s plan to transform its UK operations into a world-leading centre for green steelmaking.
In addition to preserving over 5,000 jobs, the investment is expected to improve local air quality by significantly reducing carbon dioxide emissions from the steelworks by around 90%. Moreover, it will secure sustainable steelmaking in Port Talbot for several decades, said the company.
As part of the public consultation, Tata Steel plans to host an online webinar on Wednesday 31st July, 18.00 - 19.00 for the local community in Port Talbot. Also, three drop-in events are scheduled to be held as follows:
-Thursday 1st August, 15.00 - 19.00, Taibach Community Centre
-Wednesday 7th August, 15.00 - 19.00, St Paul’s Centre
