The development is not expected to expand the footprint of the existing sawmill.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Stimson Lumber Company declared its intention to invest in the Hagg Lake sawmill's expansion. The wood products company is to invest $50 million in the sawmill operation located in Forest Grove, Oregon.

A representative of the Stimson Lumber Company stated in a letter that the firm intends to expand its current sawmill operation by adding a 45,000 square foot small-log sawmill building. The warehouse structure, which was 60,000 square feet in size, would be demolished. It is not anticipated that the development will increase the current sawmill's footprint.

The company hosted a community meeting yesterday at Wapato Valley Church at 200 Front Street in Gaston in order to provide local with an overview of the preliminary plans. The meeting was hosted by Lower Columbia Engineering, who represents the company in developing the project.

Upon approval of the plan, the new mill building will house a 350-foot-long HewSaw line by Finland-based company Veisto-Oy. The new sawline will have capability to process logs between 4 and 16 inches diameter and will be the highest speed sawline in North America. The proposed sawline will make the mill one of the most efficient and productive sawmills in North America.

There will be no disruptions to the current line's operations while construction is underway. By 2026, the new line will be up and running.
