The production of crude steel increased year-over-year in Asia & Oceania, Other Europe and North America.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The 70 countries that are members of the World Steel Association (worldsteel) produced 145.3 million tonnes (Mt) of crude steel in August of this year, a marginal 0.3% increase from the same month the previous year.
Asia and Oceania was the region that produced the most steel during the month, with 107.7 Mt. The North American region was the second-largest producer with 9.1 Mt. The EU-27 countries ranked third with a production of 8.8 Mt. The other regions' output (in Mt) is divided as follows: Africa (1.8), South America (3.6), the Middle East (3.8), Other Europe (3.7), and Russia and the rest of the CIS+ Ukraine (6.7).

All other locations saw a dip in production over the month, according to the worldsteel report. The production decline was greatest in South America, where it was around 5%. The steel production in the Russia & other CIS + Ukraine and Africa decreased by 4.9% and 3.8%, respectively, over the previous year. The EU-27 output too recorded decline by 2.8%.
The Middle East region's steel production increased the most, rising significantly by 21.5% over the same month a year before.
The combined output during Jan-Aug ’25 was 1,784 Mt, which was 1.7% less than the output during the corresponding eight-month period in 2024.
