SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Smurfit Kappa has announced launch of innovative corrugated packaging products to help communities address the new challenges posed by COVID-19 pandemic.
One of the most popular products as part of the new ‘Design for Help’ portfolio has been the corrugated workplace dividers manufactured at its French plant. Other products include corrugated beds for hospitals, protective face masks and temporary furniture including shelves and tables.
The cardboard workspace dividers are aimed at ensuring social distancing at workplaces. The free standing workplace dividers are made from renewable source, 100% recyclable and easy to assemble. Moreover, it could have safety measures and procedures printed on them, so as to create awareness on safe working practices.
The dividers guarantee safe distance in places where people work close to each other. Also, the product has been increasingly used for separating patients’ beds in hospitals, so as to ensure hygiene and privacy.
Arco Berkenbosch, VP of Innovation & Development, Smurfit Kappa praised the efforts of its designers who quickly rose to the challenge to create a range of simple but effective products. The designs are made freely available for all. The company will continue to add more useful solutions to the portfolio in the coming weeks, he added.
Incidentally, recent studies have found that coronavirus has shorter life span on corrugated as compared with other materials such as steel and plastic.
