Smurfit Kappa Declares Huge Investment in Americas Paper Sack Business

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Leading packaging company Smurfit Kappa announced plans to invest in strategic expansion of its paper sack business in the Americas. The company will invest $36 million into the project.

In accordance with the company press release, a new cutting-edge Windmöller production line will be installed at the Palmira, Colombia facility. The new line is expected to begin operations next year. This will boost the company’s sack production from the region by at least 100 million units per year. It must be noted that Smurfit Kappa had recently carried out a similar investment at its Dominican Republic paper sack plant.

The investment also consists of detailed upgrade to the paper machine that produces sack paper. This in turn is expected to increase the speed of the machine and enhance the quality of paper sacks.

Alvaro Henao, CEO of Smurfit Kappa Colombia and the Central American Region noted that the investments will take its packaging solutions portfolio to the next level. Furthermore, it will significantly strengthen Smurfit Kappa’s customer offering. The company looks forward to make additional investments aimed at reducing packaging waste and protecting the planet, Henao added.
