Smurfit Kappa Concluded Major Investment at Ibi, Spain Facility

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Smurfit Kappa announced that it has completed investment of €12 million at its Ibi, Spain production facility. The Spanish facility had commenced operations earlier this year. The investment will make the facility one of the most advanced Bag-In-Box manufacturing plants in the entire European region and further enhance the sustainability of the manufacturing process.

The capital investment has expanded the production area of the plant by additional 4,300 square metre. In addition, it comprised of installation of most modern and advanced machinery. It has ensured quicker and more efficient service to customers. In addition, it has resulted in nearly 21% less carbon dioxide emissions, thus significantly reducing the plant’s environmental footprint.

Thierry Minaud, CEO of Smurfit Kappa Bag-in-Box noted that the strategic investment is an important step for Smurfit Kappa Bag-in Box Spain. The introduction of innovative technology will help the company to boost its production capacity to better respond to rising market demand, he added.

The Ibi manufacturing plant in Spain was acquired by Smurfit Kappa in 2007.

The company had recently completed acquisition of Peru-based leading paper-based packaging company Cartones del Pacifico.
