SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Smurfit Kappa- Europe’s leading corrugated packaging company announced major investment at its manufacturing facilities across the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The proposed investment of around €20 million would lead to substantial expansion of converting capacity of as many as four plants. The capital investment demonstrates the company’s ongoing commitment to its operations and customers in Eastern Europe region.
The investment comprises four projects- three at Smurfit Kappa Czech Republic facilities in Žebrák, Žimrovice, and Olomouc. The fourth project will be undertaken at its Štúrovo facility in Slovakia. All the four projects are expected to be completed before the end of the current year, said company press release.
Smurfit Kappa plans to install new converting equipment, which will boost capacity by over 100 million regular and offset printed boxes per annum. The new state-of-the art equipment will help the company to meet the rising customer demand from the region.
Commenting on the investment, Edwin Goffard, COO of Smurfit Kappa Europe Corrugated said that Smurfit Kappa Czech Republic and Slovakia are excellently positioned to serve an evolving and ever-growing market and that this investment will support further growth of the business.
