Shuttered Williamsport Aluminum Plant to Restart Operations

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Orlando-headquartered Asian American Metals Inc. (AA Metals Inc._- the new owner of the shuttered former JW Aluminum plant in Williamsport announced plans to bring it back into operation later this year.

Mount Holly, S.C.-headquartered JW Aluminum had shuttered the Pennsylvania alumimum foil rolling facility by end-January this year, citing contraction in aerospace sector on account of coronavirus pandemic impacts.

The announcement about facility restart was made by Jason Fink, president and CEO of the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce. According to him, the plant would operate under Chance Aluminum Corp., who will act as the domestic supplier for AA Metals. Moreover, it will be the first U.S.-based manufacturing facility of AA Metals Inc. The plant is expected to employ nearly 100 people, he added.

According to Dr. Jack Cheng, CEO and president of AA Metals, the operation of the facility aligns with its sustainable growth strategy. Having a domestic mill will help the company to attain the goal of becoming the best and most dependable master distributor in North America, he added.

Cheng promised to upgrade the facility into a state-of-the-art aluminum rolling mill, generating revenue in excess of $100 million by next year.
