Scrap Metal Services Declares Key Changes to Top Executive Leadership

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Illinois-based Scrap Metal Services LLC (SMS) announced major changes to its top executive leadership roles. The decision was announced by Rick and Jeffry Gertler, the company’s co-founders.

Accordingly, the new management board will be chaired by Jeffry Gertler. Rick Gertler will act as the co-Chairman. Further, Rick and Jeffry Gertler will not be involved in the day-to-day operations of the company. Also, the scrap firm will open a new office in Chicago. Jeremy Kirchin will serve as the new CEO, while Keith Rhodes is being appointed as the new CFO. These two will manage all day-to-day responsibilities.

Kirchin has been working with SMS at various capacities since late 2016. Before joining SMS, he has worked with Pennsylvania-based mill services firm Harsco Corp. and one of its subsidiaries for nearly 10 years. Rhodes has previously served as CFO at Alter Trading Corp. and as CEO at ESCO Marine Inc.

The Gertlers noted that the rich expertise and experience of Kirchin and Rhodes will ensure the company’s ongoing success. They thanked all the employees for their hard work in transforming SMS from a small family business into an international enterprise.

Earlier this year, the company had widened its international presence by opening its first full-service steel mill in Genk, Belgium. In November 2018, the company had entered into a multiyear contract with JSW Steel USA’s newest facility in Mingo Junction, Ohio towards slag removal and processing, metal recovery, drop balling, and other miscellaneous services.
