SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded Samsung Electronics with two awards in recognition of its sustainability accomplishments.

The company won the Gold Tier Award- EPA’s highest award for recycling of e-waste collection. This is the eight consecutive year that the company has won the prestigious award. The company has been collecting and recycling around 100 million pounds of used electronics every year. Since 2008, Samsung has recycled over a billion pounds of electronics, EPA noted. In addition EPA commended the company’s goal to incorporate half-a-million tons of recycled plastics into its products by 2030.
Also, the company won the EPA Sustained Excellence Award, in recognition of its long record of innovations in boosting the sustainability of its products. For example, the company had recently announced Solar Cell Remote, made up of 24% recycled plastics. It plans to incorporate this technology into more of its products, thereby aiming to eliminate more than 200 million batteries from landfills.
The EPA noted Samsung has reduced more than 301 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions by way of energy efficiency improvements.
