SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The government of Ontario will invest $10 million in Georgia-Pacific’s North Woods facility in Englehart to support a $191-million modernization of its oriented strand board (OSB) plant.
The investment, announced by Kevin Holland, is aimed at strengthening Ontario’s forest sector competitiveness while improving supply chains and increasing the use of underutilized wood resources.
The province said the project will protect 220 forestry jobs and support hundreds of indirect positions across the regional supply chain.

The plant upgrade includes major improvements to log processing operations, construction of new facilities, expanded on-site storage and installation of advanced equipment. Once completed, the modernization is expected to increase plant production capacity by 14%.
As part of the project, Georgia-Pacific will also install a thermal energy system that uses wood by-products to generate heat and power, improving efficiency and sustainability.
Ian Dunn said the Forest Biomass Program continues to drive innovation and modernization across the province’s forestry sector.
Meanwhile, John B. Beers III said the partnership with Ontario will help secure the company’s long-term leadership position in the province’s forestry industry through continued strategic innovation and investment.
The province is investing $10 million.
