Fire-Hit Amador County Lumber Mill is a "Total Loss"

The Ampine Timber Products Company mill was about to celebrate 150 years of successful operation.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): A large fire that broke out in Amador County lumber mill has caused significant destruction to its buildings. The incident occurred at Ampine LLC fiber mill in Martell, northwest of Jackson.

The Amador County Sheriff’s office said that the fire which broke out in noon had spread to nearby vegetation, but were contained. There were 40 employees working at the site at the time of the fire. No employees have been injured and there have been no evacuations as well. However, one firefighter was injured while loading the fire hose. The fire has damaged the mill buildings. Ampine LLC is a total loss, the Sheriff’s office noted.  The cause of the fire is still not known, it added.

According to Walt White, Amador Fire Protection District Fire Chief, the fire will have devastating impact on the economy of the region. It will affect roughly 150 employees, in addition to hundreds of raw material suppliers and truckers. It remains a big question as to when Alpine can rebuild itself and bring the employees back to work, he added.
