SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Roseburg Forest Products announced its decision to end operations and permanently close its Missoula, Montana particleboard plant, effective 22nd May, 2024.
The decision is considered as the final step in the company’s strategic plan to exit the particleboard manufacturing business and focus on other key product segments such as MDF, engineered wood, plywood and lumber. It must be noted that Roseburg had acquired the Missoula particleboard facility from Louisiana-Pacific in 2003.

Commenting on the decision, Stuart Gray, President and CEO, Roseburg said that it is always a difficult decision to close any operation. It was extremely difficult with Missoula plant, especially because it marks the company’s exit from the particleboard marketplace. The machinery and technology used at the plant is outdated, thus making it impossible to remain competitive with modern particleboard facilities, he added.
The company stated that the closure will have significant impact on its Missoula team members. The first priority will be to ensure a smooth transition for its around 150 employees, by working in partnership with local resources.
Roseburg had recently decided to invest $700 million in Oregon manufacturing, including a new MDF plant.
