SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The potential tariffs in Canada and Mexico could have an impact on the price of lumber and make it more expensive in Arkansas.
University of Arkansas Economist Jeff Cooperstein says that even though the lumber industry is growing in Arkansas, the state still gets lumber from Canada.
“The immediate impact on the construction industry is going to be higher prices," Cooperstein said. "How much higher? You know that really does depend.”
Jeremiah Brown is the co-owner of Rock River Homes and builds homes throughout Bella Vista.
“I actually called our salesperson to ask, hey, should I order more now and just get it all done because prices are going to go up soon," Brown said.
Brown is unsure about the future of tariffs and the impact they could have on lumber, but he is keeping it on his radar.
“It's definitely in the back of the mind and something we keep an eye on," Brown said.
