SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Plastipak has announced official opening of its major recycling investment at its Toledo manufacturing site in Spain. The facility will help the company meet the rising customer demand for high quality rPET materials.

Coca-Cola Unveiled New Advanced PET Recycling Facility

The new facility processes PET flakes into food grade rPET pellets, which will be used in the manufacture of new bottles and containers. It will have capacity to produce approximately 20,000 tonnes of food-grade recycled pellet per year. This is Plastipak’s fifth recycling facility after recycling plants located in Dundee, USA; Hemswell, UK; Bascharage, Luxembourg and Beaune, France.

The facility employs advanced energy-saving technologies. The rooftop photovoltaic (PV) solar panels are expected to generate around 1,339 MWh of electricity per annum. This in turn will lead to significant carbon savings.

Jack Pacente, Vice President of Global Sustainability, Plastipak stated that the company is delighted to open another world-class PET bottle-to-bottle recycling facility. The additional investments in emissions-reduction initiatives demonstrates the company’s leadership in the circular economy, he added.
