SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The proposed plastic recycling plant in the Port of Sunderland by Quantafuel is expected to create over 100 new long-term jobs in the region, in addition to multiple hundreds of jobs during the construction phase.
The proposal to launch the plant in a 12-acre site on the eastern edge of the Port of Sunderland is in progress, with the company about to submit a planning application. The plant is expected to become operational during 2024, subject to planning permission and other regulatory approvals.
The facility would be capable of processing low value plastic, including soft food packaging and a huge variety of domestic and industrial plastics, which currently end up in landfills or are incinerated. The plant would transform these waste plastics into raw materials, which could then be used in the manufacture of new plastics. The transformation process guarantees reduced carbon dioxide emissions.
Lars Rosenlov, Chief Exutive, Quantafuel said that two drop-in events will be held at Chance Community Centre in Rickaby Street, on Wednesday, March 9, and Thursday, March 10 between 11 am and 8 pm, which will help members of the public to clarify their doubts and concerns in connection with the new plant.
