SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Charlotte, North Carolina-headquartered Honeywell announced new joint venture project with Houston-based Avangard Innovative to build an advanced recycling plant in Waller, Texas. The facility will use Honeywell’s recently announced UpCycle Process Technology to chemically recycle end-of-life plastics into polymer feedstock, which in turn will be used to produce new plastic.

Avangard Innovative will be the first in the entire U.S. to deploy the UpCycle Process Technology, which reduces the need for fossil feeds in the creation of virgin plastics. The joint venture facility will be co-owned and operated at Avangard's NaturaPCR complex in Waller, Texas. The facility will have a capacity to process 30,000 metric tons of mixed plastic waste and is expected to begin production in 2023.
Vimal Kapur, president and chief executive officer of Honeywell Performance Materials and Technologies noted that the new partnership will boost its efforts to close the loop within the plastics supply chain. The joint venture plastic recycling plant will play a key role in driving a circular plastics economy, he added.
Honeywell had earlier announced a joint venture project with Sacyr towards building an advanced recycling plant in Andalucía, in Southern Spain.
