SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Mexico announced plans to boost efforts to improve plastic waste management through a new partnership between the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA) and Ecología y Compromiso Empresarial (ECOCE).

The two organizations have signed an agreement to increase plastic collection, recycling, and reuse while reducing the amount of waste that ends up in the environment. The initiative will bring together government bodies, businesses, educational institutions, organizations and citizens.

The agreement expands on earlier cooperation between PROFEPA and ECOCE. As part of the national Goal for the Environment campaign, ECOCE monitored 95 institutions and helped manage nearly 24,000 kilograms of recyclable plastics. The recovered materials were sent to specialized recycling facilities for further processing.

Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection Mariana Boy said the initiative will support a transition toward a circular economy and generate more value from recovered materials. Meanwhile, ECOCE Director Jorge Terrazas stated that the agreement will ensure increased cooperation among various stakeholders.
