Pilot E-Waste Recycling Project to Undergo Major Expansion

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):  TechCollect NZ- the not-for-profit organization announced that the recent government aid will be utilized towards expanding its pilot programme, which targets to reduce electronic waste. The $320,000 funding was provided by the Waste Minimisation Fund under the Ministry for the Environment.

The non-profit has so far recycled over 53 tonnes of electronic waste. The funding is expected to increase the tonnage over the coming years, said Michael Dudley, Senior Policy Manager, TechCollect NZ. The funding will help to expand the program so as to set up at least 40 drop-off sites, where residents could drop off their end-of-life electronics free of cost. TechCollect NZ aims to collect 200,000 tonnes of e-waste per year and responsibly recycle 95% of it.
