eCycle Solutions Unveils New Recycling Technique for Mixed E-Plastics

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Mississuaga, ON-headquartered eCycle Solutions has announced the launch of a new system to recycle mixed e-plastics from electronic and electrical devices. The move is considered to be part of the company’s efforts to strengthen its commitment to the circular economy.

Michael Collins, President and Chief Executive Officer of eCycle Solutions noted that the new proprietary system will take the company to the next level in sustainable electronics recycling. It offers a more refined recycling process for electrical and electronic items, he added.

The system makes use of a float-sink technology, whereby plastic elements are separated from metals and other undesired materials using a water and salt solution. The technology results in plastic materials floating on the solution, while metals and other contaminants sink to the bottom. The separate plastic and metallic stream allows for better recovery and processing of plastic as well as metallic streams.

The in-house designed closed-loop separation system offers several advantages including reduced usage of water. It is capable of processing up to 20 metric tonnes of mixed e-plastics per hour.

eCycle Solutions expressed its willingness to work closely with its Canadian and international partners in expanding the technology across regions.
