Park Falls Paper Mill Announces Grand Reopening

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Flambeau River Papers paper mill in Park Falls, northern Wisconsin, which had closed last year, has found a new buyer. The New Jersey-based entrepreneur Yong-Liu-led Park Falls Industrial Management announced that the mill will be operated under the name Park Falls Pulp and Paper.

According to company press release, over 50 workers have already been called back for duty. One out of three paper making machines at the mill is back online. The opening of the remaining paper machines is expected to triple the number of job opportunities at the mill. At the time of lay off in June last year, the mill had a total of around 180 workers.

A ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the reopening was recently held at the mill premises, which was attended by Park Falls Mayor Michael Bablick, Yong-Liu and state Sen. Janet Bewley among others. The Outagamie County Executive Thomas Nelson, who also participated in the event, said that the opening of the mill is great for the paper industry across the state.

Currently, the mill produces wet lap, a pulp product, which it sells to other mills. It also sells the byproducts of its industrial processes.

Earlier in May last year, the mill went into receivership and was put up for sale. It closed abruptly during June. Although it had reached an agreement to resume production in July 2019, all efforts to find a buyer had ended in vain.
