The newly opened Tijuana plant is the third of its type in Mexico.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Europe’s leading corrugated packaging company, Smurfit Kappa announced opening of new folding carton plant in Mexico. The opening of the plant, located in Tijuana, is expected to strengthen the company’s footprint in Baja California region and neighboring Northern Mexico states. Further, it reiterates the company’s long-term commitment to the country.
According to company press release, the plant began operations last month. It employs state-of-the-art technology to produce innovative folding carton packaging solutions including boxes and trays. The facility makes use of diverse folding techniques to produce variety of flat and pre-glued products.

Eduardo Rubio, Vice President of Packaging for Northern Mexico, Smurfit Kappa noted that the plant and the high quality products from it will make significant contribution to the growth of its customers’ business in the region. The inauguration of the new plant demonstrates the company’s long-term commitment to Mexico and the immense confidence that it has on Mexico’s market growth and economy, Rubio added.
The newly opened Tijuana plant is the third of its type in Mexico. It must be noted that Smurfit Kappa already operates similar folding plants in Cerro Gordo and Naucalpan. Over the past 40 years, the company’s Mexican operations have been offering wide range of sustainable packaging solutions for various industries including consumer electronics, industrial, medical and food.
