SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Europe’s leading corrugated packaging company, Smurfit Kappa announced the launch of a new competition to design innovative packaging solutions. It called upon world community to take part in the challenge to contribute to the development of sustainable packaging solutions for future. The competition is part of the company’s recently launched ‘Better Planet Packaging Initiative’- an initiative aimed at exploring and re-imagining packaging for a sustainable world.
The competition focuses on two challenges. The first challenge is to develop an alternative for the plastic stretch wraps that are used around pallets in order to provide stability during transport and storage. The second challenge invites proposals towards development of a fully paper-based parcel with thermal protection to transport chocolates by using e-commerce sales channel. Effective replacements will help to prevent large volumes un-recyclable packaging related waste every year, the company noted.
The packaging design challenge is open until Friday 29th March, 2019. Applicants from inside or outside the company could submit their applications for one or both of the design challenges. The winner of each challenge will be awarded a cash prize of Euro 8,000. In addition, the award winning ideas would also be showcased at the Smurfit Kappa Innovation Event scheduled to be held in May 2019.
