The Svetogorsk mill is located in Russia’s border with Finland.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Paper mill company Sylvamo announced that it may curtail or temporarily shut down pulp and paper production at its Svetogorsk, Russia mill by end of this week. The decision follows inadequate supplies of critical raw materials to keep the mill in operation. Meantime, it noted that steps are being taken to mitigate the supply chain issues and bring back the production to normal levels at the earliest.

Meantime, the mill will continue to provide critical services such as water, electricity and water treatment for the Svetogorsk community. Also, the operations in the Latin America and North America regions are unaffected, it noted.

The Svetogorsk mill is located in Russia’s border with Finland. It produces uncoated freesheet, coated paperboard and pulp and employs approximately 1,700 people. A major portion of the critical raw materials at the mill are imported from European region. The mill has an operating capacity of 720,000 short tons of pulp, paper and paperboard per annum. It must be noted that Russian operations had accounted for roughly 15% of the company’s total revenue during the previous year.

Jean-Michel Ribiéras, chairman and chief executive officer, Sylvamo said that it hopes for an immediate cease-fire agreement and swift diplomatic resolution for the Ukraine crisis. The company continues to monitor the rapidly evolving situation, he added.
