SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Mercer Interantion Inc. announced that it plans to invest in a new sawmill project in Saxoy-Anholt, Germany. The proposed new sawmill in Arneburg will be located close to the Mercer Stendal (MS) pulp mill and will be built by Mercer Timber Products. The site was chosen for the new sawmill location due to its proximity to the pulkp mill.
The company had initiated the plan even before the onset of Covid-19 pandemic. However, the plans got delayed due to the pandemic. It was taken up again during this spring. In summer 2021, the company had submitted the building application to Stendal district planning office. Later on, the current project status along with the first site plans was presented for further discussion by authorities.

Mercer International announced that it is willing to operate the sawmill upon fulfilment of two conditions. Firstly, the project proposal should be approved by authorities as well as nearby communities. Secondly, the authorities need to approve the building application that has been submitted.
The integration of a sawmill into a pulp site would be a first in Germany, said Torsten Kroger, Strategic Project Manager at Mercer Timber Products.
