SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): International Paper has announced plans to build a new 468,000-square-foot sustainable packaging facility in Rankin County, reinforcing its strategy for long-term growth and operational excellence. The $225 million greenfield investment will be developed on an 80-acre site in Brandon, located close to the company’s existing Richland box plant.

The new facility is designed to enhance cost efficiency, improve product quality, and strengthen service capabilities across the Mid-South region. By replacing aging infrastructure with advanced technology and modern equipment, the plant is expected to reduce structural costs while supporting expansion in key packaging segments. It will also incorporate the latest safety and efficiency standards for employees.
Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2026, with operations targeted for the fourth quarter of 2027. Employees from the current Richland facility will transition to the new site upon completion.
Company executive Keith Townsend noted the investment aligns with efforts to optimize the box plant network and deliver superior customer value. Tate Reeves highlighted the project as a sign of strong economic momentum, creating jobs and boosting industrial growth in the state.
