SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): International Paper has officially broken ground on a new $225 million sustainable packaging facility in Brandon, Mississippi, significantly expanding its presence in the Mid-South region.
The new 468,000-square-foot corrugated packaging plant will be built on an 80-acre site in the East Metro Center Industrial Park in Rankin County. The proposed facility is just around 10 miles away from the company’s existing Richland box plant.
Construction of the plant is scheduled to begin in June 2026, with operations expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2027.

The facility is designed to enhance manufacturing efficiency, improve product quality, and strengthen service reliability across key packaging markets. The project also supports the company’s long-term strategy focused on sustainability, operational excellence, and customer-driven innovation.
Keith Townsend, group vice president and general manager of IP North America Packaging Solutions East , said the new Brandon facility will modernize International Paper’s manufacturing capabilities while improving safety and supporting the company’s long-term sustainability strategy.
The Canadian Pacific Kansas City transnational rail network, will offer logistics and supply chain support, by helping to connect the new facility with markets across North America.
The new facility is being built in Brandon, Mississippi, at the East Metro Center Industrial Park in Rankin County.
The company is investing $225 million in the sustainable packaging facility.
Operations are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2027.
