Novelis Opened New Ulsan Aluminum Recycling Center

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Novelis, Inc. announced the opening of the Ulsan Aluminum Recycling Center.  The new recycling center, with an annual production capacity of 100,000 tons of low-carbon aluminum sheet ingot, was built by a joint venture between Novelis and Kobe Steel. Novelis had invested $65 million into the joint venture Ulsan Aluminum.

At the moment, Novelis runs an aluminum beverage can recycling factory in Yeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do. Since the Ulsan center was added, the company's annual domestic recycling capacity has increased to over 470,000 tons. Furthermore, by processing a greater variety of aluminum waste, the new facility will improve the company's overall recycling capabilities in the area.

Nearly 19 million trees' worth of carbon emissions would be absorbed by the corporation each year, or 420,000 tons, thanks to the new center.

"The Ulsan Aluminum Recycling Center is a strategic investment aimed at meeting its growing customer demand for sustainable, low-carbon aluminum across sectors," said Sachin Satpute, President of Novelis Asia. In order to lower its carbon footprint and hasten the shift to a circular economy, the company plans to keep increasing the usage of recycled aluminum inputs.

Novelis wants to increase its average recycled content to 75% as part of its 2030 goal.
