SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Novelis Inc. announced that it has broken ground on a $365 million investment to build a highly advanced recycling center for automotive in Guthrie, Kentucky,adjacent to the company’s existing automotive finishing plant. The investment will further support North American automotive customers.
The company press release noted that the facility will have an annual casting capacity of 240 kt of sheet ingot. In addition to reducing the company's carbon emissions by more than one million tons each year, the facility will add approximately 140 new jobs in Guthrie. The automotive finishing facility currently employs 150 people and Novelis expects to grow to approximately 190 employees over the next two-year period.

Novelis welcomed nearly 100 people to the groundbreaking ceremony, which included distinguished guests including Senator Paul, Governor Beshear, Representative Petrie, Representative Thomas, Morgan Alvey from Senator McConnell's office, Corey Elder from Congressman Comer's office, as well as Guthrie Mayor Jimmy Covington and Judge Todd Mansfield.
Tom Boney, Executive Vice President and President of Novelis North America said that the groundbreaking marks a major milestone in its ongoing commitment to sustainability and recycling.
