New State-of-the-Art Aluminum Can Facility Comes Up Near Scranton, PA

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Poland-based Canpack S.A. announced plans to build a new aluminum can manufacturing facility near Scranton, Pennsylvania, adding further competition to the North American aluminum can market.

The 90,000-square-foot facility will be built by redeveloping a former brownfield site in Lackawanna County. The company, which employs nearly 8,000 employees at its various facilities across the Europe, Asia and African regions, plans to establish a North American Center of Excellence, said press release issued by the office of Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf.

The company will demolish the existing 1 million-square-foot facility at the site to build the new plant. In addition to the manufacturing plant, the company will also build a customer experience center, portraying the company’s capabilities. The facility is expected to create hundreds of job opportunities in Pennsylvania region. The conversion of the brownfield site to a state-of-the-art aluminum can manufacturing facility and operations center will result in generation of additional revenue for the local community.

Tom Wolf said that Pennsylvania is thrilled that Canpack has chosen for its entry into North America. Peter Giorgi of Canpack said that it is excited to mark its entry into the world’s largest aluminum beverage can market.
