NAID AAA Certification Policy to Go Through Changes in 2020

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The NAID AAA certification will undergo updation of policies and procedures, effective Jan 1, 2020. The service providers are required to respond to data subject requests.

According to the announcement made by the National Association for Information Destruction (NAID) and the Secure Information Governance and Management Association (i-SIGMA), the proposed updation is in line with its efforts to align with the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

All NAID AAA certified service providers are required to update their policy language. Although i-SIGMA has set Jan 1, 2020 as the deadline for updating their written policies and procedures, a brief grace period is likely to be given to companies. In order to assist companies in the process, i-SIGMA will provide the companies with simple language for updation.

Bob Johnson, CEO of i-SIGMA noted that the new requirement makes the certification more compliant with global data protection laws.
